This confined space entry program was developed by the UCSF Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEH&S) to protect employees and contractors at UCSF from exposure to the hazards encountered during entry into confined spaces. Entry into confined spaces is necessary for many functions, including inspection, cleaning, repairing, sampling, demolition, maintenance, and construction. Objectives of this program are as follows:

  • Define department specific confined space responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain an inventory of confined spaces at UCSF
  • Provide signage and notification
  • Provide training
  • Establish training requirements
  • Define entry requirements
  • Discuss emergency response and rescue procedures
